Scott-Long provides extra support and services for religious institutions At Scott-Long, we actively seek out projects that will have a positive effect on the surrounding community. Which makes us a perfect fit for religious institutions wishing to construct new facilities or renovate existing ones.
Before beginning a project, we confer in depth with church or synagogue leaders to determine the goals of their congregation. Then we make them our priority, too.
Because a number of our management and staff serve on building committees themselves, we thoroughly understand their needs. And to meet them, we offer services that go far beyond the scope of normal general contracting—including help with preconstruction budgeting and financing, soft cost consulting, value engineering, design assistance, and more.
Over the years, we have successfully completed over 70 religious projects. Some of the most recent include...
Annandale United Methodist Church This was a design-build project in which the floors were replaced and walls repainted on all three floors (72 rooms), including the school, while maintaining occupancy. The fellowship hall and two warming kitchens were completely renovated; all restrooms, conference room, worship hall, vestibule and narthex were updated; the coat closet was converted to a janitor’s closet; all windows were replaced; exterior of building was repainted; and, one side of the building was waterproofed.
St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Annandale, Virginia A 3,000SF renovation of an existing Church Narthex, main entrance facade, stairs and office area. Work included replacement of the main egress stairs, coupled with a new elevator. A new, two-story glass storefront exterior entrance was added, along with a complete repair of the brick bell tower. MEP work included an electrical upgrade of existing panels and new mechanical split systems.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Burke, Virginia Religious Interior renovation of the sanctuary, Narthex and Chapel; installation of new interior lighting, organ room, choir area, flooring, and A/V system; and restroom renovations incorporating ADA regulations
New Hope Church For 16 years, New Hope was a mobile church in the Lorton, Virginia area. When church members congregated, their meetings would usually take place in the cafeterias and auditoriums at nearby public schools. All that changed on July 13th when 700 people gathered to cut the ribbon on their new facility located on Ox Road in Lorton.
Scott-Long is proud to be New Hope's design builder. The facility which is approximately 45,000SF, viewed by New Hope as part-church, part-community center, is a massive state-of-the art building featuring kiosks, flat screen televisions mounted throughout most rooms, a sanctuary, a full commercial-use kitchen, offices, meeting room and Sunday School rooms. The building also houses an entire wing devoted to children, along with video games and an indoor active play area.
Fourth Presbyterian Church A 32,000SF addition and 20,000sf renovation of educational classrooms, assembly hall, and offices. Work included a new 4-pipe mechanical system with integration to the existing system, excavation with blasting, sheeting and shoring operations, and installation of a new elevator in the existing building. Key features include an expansive new assembly hall with wood wainscoting, stage, and new kitchen. It was completed in the Summer of 2008.
Purcellville Baptist Church Purcellville Baptist held their first service in their new 36,000SF facility on August 3, 2008. A total of 850 people attended both services. The facility has a 700 seat sanctuary, a two-story education wing that houses classes for the nursery, preschool, elementary, youth and adult classes, offices, chapel and kitchen.
Calvary United Methodist Church The first phase of this project included interior modifications to the parlor area and mechanical, plumbing, and electrical upgrades to the existing church. Phase two consisted of a multi-level masonry addition with elevator immediately adjacent to and interconnected with the existing building.
Grace Covenant Scott-Long converted this 27,000SF pre-engineered metal building that was previously a roller rink into the new home of Grace Covenant Church. The interior renovation included a new sanctuary, a two-story addition, new elevator, new mechanical and electrical systems, restrooms, upgraded kitchen, offices, conference room and gathering area and upgraded kitchen.
Faith Baptist Church As the construction manager, Scott-Long completed this 39,000sf addition to the existing church. We managed the subcontractors to build the base building and the congregation completed the interior of the building. It was a very unique and successful situation for the congregation to come together and build their church home.
Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and School Like most of our projects, Scott-Long initially served as preconstruction consultant on this $14 million project. Then as general contractor, we followed through—taking meticulous care with the church's high-end finishes, priceless stained-glass windows, and hand-carved marble altar...while simultaneously constructing a 30,000SF parish school.
First Baptist Church of Gaithersburg When First Baptist needed room to grow, Scott-Long constructed this 35,000SF addition. Its centerpiece is an octagonal sanctuary with glu-lam beams and wood decking spanning the ceiling, a skylight at the peak, and spot lighting carefully planned to avoid distracting from this inspiring feature.
