Elliot House at Old Presbyterian Meeting House Winner of awards from both the American Institute of Architects and Associated Builders and Contractors, this project involved restoration of an 1845 landmark in Old Town Alexandria—plus a three-story addition, underground fellowship hall, and landscaped brick terrace.
All designs and materials had to be approved by an Historic Review Board; and daily meetings with the architect were held to resolve unforeseen issues, such as the discovery of archaeological remains, three abandoned wells, and the additional challenge of keeping water out of the underground room, just a few feet above the water table of the Potomac.
Country Club of Fairfax The addition of a swim and fitness center was an ambitious project that included three new pools, shade structures and landscaping that would compliment the adjacent golf course. In addition, an upscale clubhouse with four sets of locker rooms, a screened porch, outdoor bar/snack bar, and a full fitness facility were built. All this came with an ambitious deadline too. Everything had to be ready in just nine months—in time for the opening of the 2005 swim season. Despite unforeseen difficulties with permitting and utilities, Scott-Long made sure that it was.
